Our free Pre-Entry and Entry 1 classes are designed for adults who are beginning their journey in reading and writing, starting from the basics.
Improver courses (entry levels 2 and 3)

Our free improvers courses are designed for people who need to brush up their English skills for work or personal development. At Entry Level 2, you will continue to develop your knowledge without taking an exam. At Entry Level 3, you will study an accredited course and sit exams in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Functional skills level 1
Functional skills level 1
Functional Skills Level 1 in English is more than just a qualification – it’s a gateway to greater confidence and opportunity. Adult learners choose this course to communicate with confidence in everyday life and boost job prospects with a recognised qualification valued by employers. It can help you to prepare for further study while learning in a supportive environment. These courses are free.
English language GCSE
English language GCSE
The GCSE course is well-suited to adult learners who already have a good understanding of English and want to build on that foundation. If you aren’t ready to take your English GCSE, you can take a Level 1 Functional Skills course or enrol on the non-accredited preparation for GCSE course. These courses are free.
How to enrol
Pre‑course assessments for courses starting in September
If you’d like to enrol on an English course, you’ll need to complete a pre‑course assessment to ensure you’re placed at the right level.
Assessments will take place between 14–15 July and more dates starting 7–16 September, with appointments available at various times throughout the summer.

ESOL £75-£225
I want to do the course. What do I need to do?
You need to book a pre course assessment. You will be asked if you work or receive benefits.
What do I need to do to apply for reduced fees?
Bring your evidence of benefits or payslip on or before your assessment day.
When can I start the course?
After you have completed the skills assessment and have paid or have your reduced course fee approved.
