Italian beginner – part 1
This beginner course is ideal for anyone planning to visit an Italian speaking country. Furthermore, on completion, you will be able to use a significant number of words and use basic phrases essential for communicating. These will include emergency/survival skills, greetings, asking about meaning and pronunciation of words, personal information, numbers, spelling, ordering food and drink, shopping in a supermarket and identifying and describing people.

Italian upper intermediate/lower advance – Part 1
This course will allow you to communicate in an environment which will enhance your grasp of Italian. In addition, on completion of this 10-week upper intermediate/lower advance part 1 course, you will be confident with the mechanics of the language, and the course will develop and extend your vocabulary to include personal opinions, occupations and describing experiences. This is a practical course that takes a task-based approach covering the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Italian studio conversational (autumn)
This conversational course is practical based, with practitioners interacting with each other over 10 weeks to practice and refine their linguistic skills. During the sessions, learners will practice the skills of speaking and listening covering a wide range of topics. Note, before enrolling, you must contact the tutor Vincenza Della Camera: vincenza.dellacamera@adultlearninglewisham.co.uk for a pre-course assessment to determine your level.

How to enrol
After you’ve chosen which course you want to do, you need to enrol. You should enrol before the course starts to make sure you get a place.
You can enrol up to three weeks after the start date if there are spaces available.

You can also enrol in person at any one of our adult learning centres.
We can only accept debit or credit card payments.
Requirements
If this is your first enrolment you’ll need to provide proof of identity. We will accept a photo of one of the following:
- passport
- driving licence
- national ID card
- birth or adoption certificate
- National Insurance card
- credit or debit card
- recent utility bills or bank statements
- Freedom Pass
How to enrol if you get reduced fees
Find out whether you’re entitled to reduced fees when paying for your course.
If you’re entitled to reduced fees, you can enrol online, but you’ll need to pay for the course then claim a partial refund – you can do so by sending copies of any benefits you’ve claimed in the last three months to adultlearning@lewisham.gov.uk.

Learning aims

- To achieve an appropriate level of language across the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.
- To record progress through an individual learning plan.
What prior knowledge do I need
No previous knowledge of the language is assumed for this course.
What teaching methods

Initial assessment, individual learning plans, continuous assessment, informal feedback.
Extra work
Home study may be set to consolidate what is learned in the lessons.

You will need to bring along a notepad and pen. Folder for handouts (optional).
After completion
This course can provide learners with the basics needed to progress onto the beginners part 2 course. The tutor will advise you about further courses for progression.

- To be able to participate in short discussion on a particular topic.
- To develop competence in exchanging information.
What prior knowledge do I need
You will have studied at intermediate level and already confident in your language skills for greetings, ordering food/drink and asking for and giving directions.

Group work, pair work, role play, practical worksheets, one to one support, listening, reading, speaking, and writing exercise.
What assessment methods
Initial assessment, individual learning plans, continuous assessment, informal feedback.
