English language GCSE courses
The GCSE course is well-suited to adult learners who already have a good understanding of English and want to build on that foundation. If you aren’t ready to take your English GCSE, you can take a Level 1 Functional Skills courseor enrol on the non-accredited preparation for GCSE course. These courses are free.
What you will learn
On this course you will:
- read a range of non-fiction texts from the 20th and 21st centuries
- develop the skills to analyse, evaluate, and compare extracts of non-fiction writing
- develop transactional writing skills for a variety of forms, purposes, and audiences
- use spelling, punctuation, and grammar accurately
Your assessments will include:
- a formal presentation to the class
- two externally marked exams in the summer term
Preparation for GCSE course
This 10-week course will prepare learners who would like to progress to an accredited GCSE English language qualification. The course will help you to improve analytical, evaluative and comparison skills. It takes place in the summer term.
