Discover the creative potential of Tetra Pak printmaking in this exciting and experimental course. Using recycled packaging as a printing plate, you’ll explore ways of building richer, more ambitious prints through layering, texture and composition. Experiment with combining multiple plates to create larger, more dynamic artworks, while discovering how techniques such as chine collé and collagraph can add depth, colour and unexpected visual effects to your work.
This course is ideal for anyone who enjoys creative exploration and wants to develop their printmaking practice through experimentation, play and personal expression. Whether you are continuing from a beginner’s Tetra Pak course or are new to the process, you will be encouraged to push ideas further and create original, contemporary prints

How to enrol
After you’ve chosen which course you want to do, you need to enrol. You should enrol before the course starts to make sure you get a place.
You can enrol up to three weeks after the start date if there are spaces available.

Requirements
If this is your first enrolment you’ll need to provide proof of identity. We will accept a photo of one of the following:
- passport
- driving licence
- national ID card
- birth or adoption certificate
- National Insurance card
- credit or debit card
- recent utility bills or bank statements
- Freedom Pass

If you’re entitled to reduced fees, you can enrol online, but you’ll need to pay for the course then claim a partial refund – you can do so by sending copies of any benefits you’ve claimed in the last three months to adultlearning@lewisham.gov.uk.

Learning aims
- Explore scale and composition - Develop larger and more complex artworks by combining multiple Tetra Pak plates into a single composition.
- Experiment with creative printmaking techniques - Investigate chine collé and collograph processes to introduce texture, layering and visual interest into prints.
- Create a personal body of work - Produce a series of experimental prints and a resolved final piece that reflects individual ideas, creativity and technical development.
What prior knowledge do I need
No prior knowledge or experience is necessary to enrol on this course. Please be advised that some learners who enrol will have more experience than others. A basic level of English, Maths and computer skills would be useful.
What teaching methods
The tutor will use a range of teaching methods during the course, which will include the following: Demonstration - both group and individual, one to one tuition, and group work, assessment of progress, observation, discussion/question and answer sessions.
What assessment methods
The course tutor will use a range of methods to assess progress on the course. These may include: observation, completion of an Individual Learning Plan which will be updated regularly, evaluation of work samples, question and answer sessions, photographs of projects to record achievement presented on our virtual learning environment (VLE).
Extra work
Learners may wish to work on their projects outside class time to progress. Homework exercises are set to enhance and develop techniques learnt in the class. Homework may be set. You will be encouraged to access our virtual learning environment all.lewisham.gov.uk (VLE), take part in course forums and various online activities provided. You will also need to sign up to a gmail google account, to enable you to access google sites, where your online course will be posted.
Materials needed
A small charge is included in the course fee for basic materials. Where appropriate a charge has been included for use of specialist equipment. Learners will be expected to purchase printing paper and some more unusual printing inks (only basic ranges of inks are supplied). This will be discussed with the course tutor and will not be covered in the course materials fee. Please do not purchase anything before your first lesson unless requested to do so. No liability can be accepted for expenses incurred for a course cancelled/altered at short notice.
What to bring
Working sketch book, drawing and writing equipment, notebook and images for inspiration. Don't forget to bring an apron, wear suitable clothing and enclosed footwear.
After completion
The department offers a wide variety of Design, Media, Music and Food courses at different levels. Information about these courses is available through the tutor, the Curriculum Leader or the ALL programme.
