Mindful moves – capoeira
This course is for adults living with, or recovering from a mental health condition. Capoeira is a gentle, flowing activity, originally developed in Brazil, that combines movement, rhythm, and simple partner interaction. It is often described as a mix of dance, game, and martial art, but on this course it is adapted to be slow, accessible, and non-contact.
Capoeira uses rhythmic movement and gentle interaction with others to create a playful and expressive experience. In this term, participants build on basic skills and begin linking movements together, exploring flow and coordination. There is a stronger focus on self-expression and connection, using rhythm and movement as a way to communicate without words. Mindfulness is developed through focused attention, listening to rhythm, and staying in the moment, helping to improve mood, confidence, and emotional awareness.
