Course Summary: This two-week course will teach you the essential wiring & construction skills to enable you to make three beautiful wearable designs for a special occasion such as a wedding, party, festival or prom. These are a modern buttonhole, a wrist corsage and an on-trend floral crown. You will be sent materials recommendations closer to the start date of the course, but you will be able to make your designs in either fresh, dried or artificial materials – or combinations of these- to enable you to keep and re-wear them

Modern Bouquets – beginners/improvers
This 2-session course is perfect for first-time florists and anyone looking to develop their confidence and skills in floristry. You will learn how to create a range of stunning bouquets suitable for gifts, the home, and potential sympathy or bridal use.
The course will cover key floristry skills, including the preparation and conditioning of materials, using the professional hand-tied technique of spiralling stems, and methods and materials for professionally gift-wrapping or presenting your designs. You will also learn how to decorate and finish stems for bridal use.
Throughout the course, you will have plenty of opportunity to practise your new skills, as well as consider and discuss current floristry trends and style influences.

Sustainable & contemporary table decorating
Create your own foam free arrangements for special events, parties, or simply to decorate your home. You will create a stunning naturalistic vase or bowl arrangement and learn how to use a traditional pin holder or Kenzan, make an elongated table centre, and a hanging wall or door wreath. The course will cover the whole process- from choosing containers and using alternative construction materials that are either re-usable or biodegradable, such as chicken wire, moss, garden twine, rope and twigs. You will learn how to identify, choose and style your fresh plant materials to best suit each design.

Floristry business skills – wholesale flower market tour & guide
This fantastic two part course will firstly take you on a fully guided tour of a busy Wholesale Flower Market, giving you the opportunity to discover how this functions, the range & extent of available materials, and how you would go about using the market as a freelancer. PLEASE NOTE: this will involve an earlier morning start of between 8-9 am, which it isn’t possible to indicate on the website. For the second session you will be classroom based and will have the opportunity to explore online wholesale purchasing & deliveries, discuss and share experiences, and ask further questions.

Hand-tied seasonal bouquet
Learn to create your own stunning bouquet using winter or festive inspired materials- suitable for either professional style gifts or vase designs for a variety of home or venue decoration. The course will cover key skills including : the choice & preparation of materials, learning the essential hand-tying technique of spiralling your stems to create a strong bouquet shape, methods & materials to gift wrap designs, and will also consider current trends & style influences.

Contemporary & sustainable festive door wreath-masterclass
Create a stunning & fully sustainable natural style wreath to hang either inside your home or to decorate your front door. This would also make an impressive gift, and could be completely preserved and dried to re-use. To make your wreath fully biodegradable, you will construct the base using twigs and twine, and decorate it using a range of mixed seasonal foliage & dried and preserved materials. The focus of this style is to create a soft and highly textured design in subtle & natural colour tones. This creative & hugely enjoyable class will be taught by an industry professional florist, and all the materials you will use are provided for you

After you’ve chosen which course you want to do, you need to enrol. You should enrol before the course starts to make sure you get a place.
You can enrol up to three weeks after the start date if there are spaces available.

No prior knowledge or experience is required to enrol on this course- it is ideal for either complete beginners, or those learners who have some floristry experience and wish to practise or improve their skills
What teaching methods
The tutor will use a range of teaching methods during the course which will include the following: Demonstration - both group and individual, one to one tuition, group work, assessment of progress, observation, discussion / question and answer sessions.
What assessment methods
The course tutor will use a range of methods to assess progress on the course. These may include: Observation, completion of an Individual Learning Plan which will be updated regularly, evaluation of work samples, question and answer sessions.
Extra work
Extra work is not essential, but will enable learners to practice techniques and progress their projects at a faster pace.
Materials needed
You will need to bring your own flowers & foliage for each session, and potentially some florist's materials that may not be covered by the basic fee. The approximate cost of these will be £5-10 per week, depending on the specific design and your individual choice. You may be able to reduce this cost or supplement your bought flowers with foraged or home garden grown materials. You will also need a pair of strong scissors with sharp blades. You will be contacted by email by the course tutor with a materials requirements list for the first session. If you have not received this within 3 days of that date, or you enrol just before the start date, please ask for this information when you enrol or contact the Curriculum Leader straight away.
What to bring
You will need to bring your own flower materials and scissors- as recommended by the tutor. As this is a practical class, please wear suitable clothing, including fully closed in footwear- you may also wish to wear an apron. What prior knowledge do I need
This is an ideal course to develop commercial skills and awareness, if you are considering a career change & starting a small freelance floristry business, and will complement existing practical floristry classes. It is necessary to have had some practical floristry experience before attending and to have an understanding of using fresh materials, and is aimed at those learners who have not yet experienced a commercial flower sales environment.
What teaching methods
The tutor will use a range of teaching methods during the course which will include the following: Demonstration - both group and individual, one to one tuition, group work, assessment of progress, observation, discussion / question and answer sessions.
What assessment methods

You will need to cover your own travel expenses for the off-site visit. Very importantly, do remember to take either cash or cards to the market if you wish to make any purchases , and that all prices will have VAT added at the point of sale ( and this increases the overall price considerably)
What to bring
Wear warm & appropriately comfortable clothing and footwear for the market visit, as this will involve walking, and take a camera/phone and/or notebook and pen. You will also need these for session 2.
