Basic digital skills – use online services and buy items
Learn how to buy and sell items online and access local and national services. In this course, you will set up accounts with Amazon and eBay, and find out how to interact with central and local government departments. You’ll also discover how to navigate the internet using different applications, from booking holidays and travel to using local and international transport websites and apps. Finally, you will learn how to make an appointment online with your general practitioner.

BDS – beginners – how to use your computer (autumn)
This course is for anyone who has little or no I.T. skills. As these skills are required to be independent in society in gaining employment and general everyday life of using the internet, shopping online and using a cashpoint securely using passwords.

How to enrol
After you’ve chosen which course you want to do, you need to enrol. You should enrol before the course starts to make sure you get a place.
You can enrol up to three weeks after the start date if there are spaces available.

We can only accept debit or credit card payments.
Requirements
If this is your first enrolment you’ll need to provide proof of identity. We will accept a photo of one of the following:
- passport
- driving licence
- national ID card
- birth or adoption certificate
- National Insurance card
- credit or debit card
- recent utility bills or bank statements
- Freedom Pass
How to enrol if you get reduced fees
Find out whether you’re entitled to reduced fees when paying for your course.
If you’re entitled to reduced fees, you can enrol online, but you’ll need to pay for the course then claim a partial refund – you can do so by sending copies of any benefits you’ve claimed in the last three months to adultlearning@lewisham.gov.uk.

Learning aims

What prior knowledge do I need
You'll need an email account and password, but no prior knowledge is required to enrol on this course.
What teaching methods
The tutor will use a range of teaching methods including demonstrations, question and answer sessions, discussions, practical worksheets and one to one support.
What assessment methods
There will be some informal assessment including observation, quizzes, discussions and feedback on your work.
Extra work
Practice between classes is recommended.
Materials needed
You'll need a pen, some paper and a folder.
What to bring
You will need a smartphone – either Android or Apple – or a tablet with wifi enabled. Part of the course involves setting up an account with your GP. You will need a letter of registration from the receptionist at your surgery, so please make sure you get this before the class.

Learning aims
- To gain confidence using a computer, copy + paste text to send between apps and devices, download & share files & pictures.
- Understand the use of folders and file location i.e. pictures, downloads, USB.
- Know the difference between ‘Save and Save As’ to create 2 types of files (word and PDF) or renaming a file to create a second file.
- Surf the internet using key words. In addition, identify web pages and use various search engines and email.
What prior knowledge do I need
You must have a minimum of entry Level 3 literacy; this will be assessed during the first lesson. You must also have some prior experience in using a mouse, such as how to click on an icon on the desktop, how to use dialogue boxes, how to find your way around the keyboard and an understanding of how to use the keys.

Demonstrations, question and answer, discussions, practical worksheet and one to one support.
What assessment methods
There will be informal assessment through observation, quizzes, discussion and feedback on your work produced.
Extra work
For consolidation practice outside of class is recommended.

A memory stick - to save class work and homework.
