Botanical illustration – Tuesday pm – autumn
This botanical illustration course welcomes all levels of ability, whether you’re an experienced practitioner or simply curious about the subject. Our expert tutor will guide you through exercises and techniques that suit your level of experience to help you create your own botanical illustations. Flowers, plants and other specimens will be provided each week but you’re welcome to bring your own source material if you’d rather begin a personal project.

Botanical illustration – studio – am – autumn
Learn the art of botanical illustration, or develop your existing practice, in this course for learners who have some drawing and painting experience. Over the weeks you will hone your observational drawing skills using a variety of tools and techniques to show the intricate details that makes each plant unique. You’ll also explore colour using watercolours, gouache, ink, water soluble pencils and other media to depict the forms and colour characteristics of each plant structure and species.

How to enrol
After you’ve chosen which course you want to do, you need to enrol. You should enrol before the course starts to make sure you get a place.
You can enrol up to three weeks after the start date if there are spaces available.

You can also enrol in person at any one of our adult learning centres.
We can only accept debit or credit card payments.
Requirements
If this is your first enrolment you’ll need to provide proof of identity. We will accept a photo of one of the following:
- passport
- driving licence
- national ID card
- birth or adoption certificate
- National Insurance card
- credit or debit card
- recent utility bills or bank statements
- Freedom Pass
How to enrol if you get reduced fees

If you’re entitled to reduced fees, you can enrol online, but you’ll need to pay for the course then claim a partial refund – you can do so by sending copies of any benefits you’ve claimed in the last three months to adultlearning@lewisham.gov.uk.

What prior knowledge do I need
No prior knowledge or experience is required to enrol on this course.
What teaching methods
The tutor will use a range of teaching methods during the course, including demonstration (both group and individual), one to one tuition, group work, progress assessments, observation, discussion and question and answer sessions.
What assessment methods
The course tutor will use a range of methods to assess progress during the course. These may include observation, completion of an Individual Learning Plan which will be updated regularly, evaluation of work samples, and question and answer sessions.
Extra work
The tutor will discuss this with you in your first session.
Materials needed
The course fee includes a small charge for basic art materials and, where applicable, a model. You may be asked to provide additional materials and tools during your course, which may not be covered by the course fee. The course tutor will discuss this with you. Please do not purchase anything before your first session unless requested to do so. No liability can be accepted for expenses incurred for a course cancelled or altered at short notice.
What to bring
This is a practical subject, so please wear suitable clothing.
After completion
